Once upon a time, in a busy little village, the people were having a hard time. Some didn’t have enough to eat. Others were sick and had no one to help them. Children wanted to learn, but there were no schools. Houses were broken, and no one knew who was in charge.

Then, one day, an old wise teacher gathered the children under a big tree and began to speak.

“Do you know what a government is?” he asked.

The children shook their heads.

“A government is like a big helper that keeps everything peaceful when many people live together,” he explained. “It’s like a kingdom, with someone to lead, rules to follow, and people to care for.”

The children listened closely.

“A good government has eight things,” the teacher said, drawing pictures in the dirt.

A ruler, like a king.
A throne, or a special seat of power.
A law, to guide everyone.
People, who live in the land.
A land, the place they call home.
Helpers, who carry out the king’s work.
Judges, who are fair.
Soldiers, to protect the people.

The children nodded. “That sounds like a good kingdom!” one boy said.

The teacher smiled. “Wouldn’t it be even better if this kingdom also gave the people everything they needed to be happy?”

“Yes!” the children cheered.

“So,” the teacher said, “what makes people happy?”

The children called out answers:
“Food!”
“Work!”
“School!”
“A house!”
“Good health!”

The teacher nodded. “You are very wise. A truly good kingdom gives all of those things.”

He opened a big book and said, “Let me tell you about a special government—the Kingdom of God.”

The children leaned in.

“This kingdom has a ruler—His name is Jesus.
He sits on a throne at God’s right hand.
He gives us the law of Christ.
He has people—subjects who love him.
His land is the whole earth!
He has helpers, 144,000 of them.
He is a fair judge
And he leads the armies of heaven.

The children’s eyes grew wide.

“But that’s not all,” the teacher said gently. “This kingdom also cares for the people.

It gives them food—lots of it!
It gives them good work to do.
It teaches them what’s right.
It builds homes for them.
And no one will be sick anymore.”

The children jumped up and clapped. “That’s the best kingdom ever!” one girl shouted.

The teacher smiled. “Yes. The Kingdom of God is real. It is good. And when it rules, people will blossom like flowers in spring.”

As the sun set, the children walked home, their hearts full of joy, dreaming of a kingdom where all are happy, healthy, and safe.
